Why Use a VPN on Your Samsung TV?
Unlock More Shows
Teleport your TV to the UK, US, Japan, or anywhere else. Access more streaming libraries on your favorite platforms with our servers in 69+ countries and 120+ cities.
End ISP Throttling
Your ISP loves to slow down your connection when they see you're streaming. We encrypt your traffic so they can't see what you're watching, much less slow it down.
Block Trackers & Ads
Samsung TVs are surprisingly chatty. R.O.B.E.R.T. blocks the ads and trackers built into your hardware before they can report back to the mothership.
Stop Your TV From Data Harvesting
Your TV logs what you watch and sells that data to advertisers. A VPN wraps that data in a lead pipe so your late-night reality TV shame stays between you and the remote.
Can I Install a VPN on my Samsung TV?
Samsung Smart TVs run TizenOS, which doesn't allow native VPN apps. If you search the Samsung App Store for a VPN, you'll find nothing but disappointment.
However, you can still protect your TV by routing its traffic through Windscribe using a VPN-enabled router, sharing a Secure Hotspot from your computer, plugging in a streaming stick, or using Smart DNS.

Frequently Asked Questions About VPN for Samsung TV
Does my Samsung TV have a built-in VPN?

No. Samsung uses TizenOS, which doesn't include a VPN and doesn't allow you to download one from their app store. If you want a VPN on your Samsung TV, you'll have to use one of the four workarounds we mentioned on this page.
What is the difference between Smart DNS and a VPN?

A VPN encrypts your traffic and hides your IP address, providing privacy and security. Smart DNS only spoofs your location to unblock streaming apps. It's faster and easier to set up on a TV, but it offers zero encryption and zero privacy. Your ISP will still see everything you do.
Will a VPN slow down my streaming speeds?

Slightly. You can usually expect a 5-15% drop when using WireGuard on a nearby server. For most people, this is imperceptible for HD streaming. If you're trying to watch 4K content, just make sure you're connected to a server in a city close to you.
Can I use a free VPN for my Samsung TV?

Yes, but be careful. Windscribe's free tier gives you 10GB a month and the same privacy as our paid users. Most free VPNs that don't require an account make their money by selling your browsing data to the highest bidder. If the product is free and the company is sketchy, you are the product.
Does Windscribe have a native Samsung TV app?

No, and neither does anyone else. Tizen simply doesn't support VPN apps. Any company claiming they have an app you can "install on your Samsung TV" is either lying or talking about a streaming stick you have to plug into it.
Why does Netflix show a proxy detected error on my TV?

Netflix has blacklisted that specific VPN server's IP. Usually, just switching to a different server in the same country fixes it. If you're using Smart DNS, try changing your DNS endpoint in the Control D dashboard.
Will a VPN stop Samsung from collecting my data?

Only partially. A VPN hides your traffic from your ISP, but it won't stop ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) software running on the TV's hardware. To kill those trackers, you need a DNS-level blocker like Windscribe's R.O.B.E.R.T. to stop the TV from phoning home.
What's the difference between Tizen and Android TV?

Tizen is Samsung's private club. It's closed-source and hates VPN apps. Android TV (found on Sony, TCL, and Fire TV Sticks) is much more open and lets you install the Windscribe app directly. If you're tired of Tizen's nonsense, buying an Android streaming stick is the best fix.
