We're Fast. Period.
Every VPN claims they're the fastest. We'll let TechRadar do the bragging instead: they named Windscribe the fastest free VPN and put us in the top 3 overall across the entire market, beating out the heavily funded brands you see everywhere.
That verdict isn't a fluke on one lucky server. It's what happens when you spend years rebuilding your network instead of buying adjectives.
We won't lie about fake math. Physics matters, and distance slows down speed. But we will promise verified top-3 performance that leaves major competitors in the dust and clears everything you actually do online.

We Aren't Wizards. We Just Have Better Hardware.
We ripped out old hardware for high-capacity minimum 10 Gbps servers. More capacity means no digital traffic jams at peak hours. Spot them instantly via the 10 Gbps badge.

Connect to Japan, you're in Japan. Connect to El Salvador, you are in El Salvador. We don't use virtual locations… We use real, physical hardware. The server is exactly where we say it is.

WireGuard is the post-quantum lean speed king. We default to it, backed by five other protocols, so you stay fast even when networks try to block or throttle you.

Our servers run entirely on RAM and wipe clean on every reboot. Performance stays fresh, and there are literally no hard drives to hoard your data. Speed meets total privacy.

Our apps are deliberately minimalist and stay out of your way. The heavy lifting happens in the tunnel, not in some bloated client hogging your CPU and draining your battery.

Fast for the Stuff You Actually Do
Our servers are optimized for gaming, keeping your ping as low and stable as physically possible. Our Pro users also get Port Forwarding to host private game servers.
With 10 Gbps servers, your large files and torrents move at full tilt. Still too slow? Use Split Tunneling to accelerate your downloads while keeping your regular browsing separate.

Free vs. Paid: What Actually Changes
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the fastest VPN protocol?

For most people, WireGuard. It runs over UDP with lean, modern encryption and a fraction of the overhead of older protocols like OpenVPN. Windscribe uses it by default, then keeps five more protocols on hand (including OpenVPN and our Stealth modes) for networks that try to throttle or block VPN traffic.
Is Windscribe's free VPN actually fast, or is it throttled?

It's genuinely fast, and it's not throttled. The free plan runs the same WireGuard protocol and the same 10 Gbps servers as our paid plans; the only limits are on how much data you get and how many countries you can reach. That's exactly why TechRadar named it the fastest free VPN they tested.
Does a VPN slow down your internet?

A little overhead is unavoidable because your traffic takes an encrypted detour. With WireGuard on a nearby server, that hit is small enough that you won't notice it while streaming or gaming. And if your ISP throttles certain traffic (hello, video and torrents), a VPN can actually make those faster by hiding them from your provider.
How fast does a VPN need to be for 4K streaming or gaming?

For 4K video, you want roughly 15 to 25 Mbps of real throughput; HD needs about 5. For gaming, forget Mbps and watch your ping (latency) instead; lower is better. Windscribe clears the streaming numbers by a wide margin on nearby servers and keeps ping low and stable for gaming.
What makes Windscribe fast?

Five things, mostly: a 10 Gbps network across 139 locations, physically located servers (no virtual-location detours), WireGuard as the default protocol, RAM-disk servers on modern hardware, and deliberately lightweight apps. Together, they keep speeds high and consistent instead of great in a demo and awful in real life.
Can I run it on all my devices at full speed at once?

Why is my VPN slow, and how do I speed it up?

Usually it's distance or protocol. Switch to WireGuard, pick a server closer to you, and use a wired connection if you can. If speeds are still poor, your ISP may be throttling, which is one of the things a VPN is supposed to fix. Our apps auto-select a fast nearby server if you'd rather not fiddle.
Which VPN is the fastest?

TechRadar routinely crowns Windscribe as the fastest free VPN on the market. Why? Because we don't have a hard speed limit and we actually invested in a massive, high-capacity 10 Gbps network infrastructure instead of just pouring money into flashy marketing campaigns. Plus, we've shared the screenshots of our users' speed results with Windscribe on. Just scroll a bit up to view them!
Which VPN has no speed limit?

Windscribe has no hard speed limit. We believe holding your internet speed hostage behind a paywall is a garbage business practice. Whether you're on our Pro plan or using our Free tier, you get the exact same high-speed tech stack, the same 10 Gbps servers, and absolutely zero artificial speed caps. Your connection goes as fast as your internet provider allows. Period.
Which VPN gives free 10GB?

That would be us. Windscribe gives you 2 GB of data per month completely anonymously, which immediately bumps up to a generous 10 GB of free data every single month the second you confirm a valid email address.
