Windscribe prevents IPv6 leaks today, and IPv6 VPN support is now rolling out across supported apps and server locations.
- If IPv6 is supported for your desktop and/or mobile app, and server location, Windscribe can route IPv6 traffic through the VPN tunnel (WireGuard only). This applies to paid locations only.
- If IPv6 is not supported for your setup, Windscribe blocks IPv6 traffic to prevent leaks.
- If you use a manual configuration or a third-party VPN client, you are responsible for making sure IPv6 does not leak outside the tunnel.
IPv6 is the newer internet address system designed to replace IPv4. Some internet providers already assign IPv6 addresses to customers. If your device has IPv6 but your VPN setup does not handle it properly, your IPv6 address can leak even when your IPv4 address is protected.
That is why Windscribe either routes supported IPv6 traffic through the VPN or blocks unsupported IPv6 traffic.
