Frequently Asked Questions
What is browser fingerprinting?

It is how websites recognize you without cookies. Your browser shares many details, like screen size, fonts, GPU, and timezone. Together they make a signature. Sites hash that signature and tag you with it. Clear your cookies and open a private window, and a strong fingerprint can still follow you.
Does the Windscribe extension actually stop this?

It stops a lot of it. The extension changes canvas, WebGL, and audio. It also sets a common user agent, timezone, and language so you blend in. It cannot change hardware signals like your CPU core count. We mark which results it covers and which it does not. No tool makes you perfectly invisible.
Does a VPN alone fix this?

No. A VPN hides your IP. Your IP is one of many signals sites use to recognize you. The rest, the ones on this page, still give you away. That is why Windscribe pairs the VPN with anti-fingerprinting in the extension. You want both.
Does incognito mode help?

It keeps your browsing history out of the usual history list, but it is not an invisibility cloak. Firefox's private browsing can hide or alter some readings, like CPU core count and installed fonts, so results may differ from a regular window. That is fingerprinting protection doing its job. It does not mean every signal is hidden or that sites cannot recognize you.
Is this page collecting my fingerprint?

No. The whole check runs in your browser. We do not send your signals anywhere. We do not store them. We set no cookies. We use no third-party scripts. Open the Network tab in your developer tools and watch. Nothing about your fingerprint leaves this page.
Why does my hash stay the same when I run it again?

Because that is how your browser really looks. This page does not add random noise between runs, so a stable browser makes a stable hash. If your hash never changes, that is how trackers stitch your visits together. The Windscribe extension adds the noise that breaks that.
