For those of you who have been paying attention to our Twitter, Windscribe is in Japan! Agustin has been traveling the country with Windscribe in his pocket (and on his maple syrup), seeing the beautiful sights, meeting all kinds of wonderful people, and even attending the Tokyo Game Show!
In celebration of this new frontier for Windscribe, we have collected some of Agustin's photos and notes on his travels to bring you something a bit different from our usual fare: a travel blog!
This blog begins in Sapporo, but Agustin's journey actually began in Tokyo. If you want to see some pictures from his first few days in Japan, check out our Twitter!
Agustin spent the first few days in Sapporo, home of the famous and eponymous brewery in the Hokkaido region. This region is renowned for its fantastic food, from seafood to dairy and more, and is regarded as a food heaven in Japanese culture.
Agustin wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to sample the offerings, and visited the Beer Museum and the night markets, as well as stopping by the Sapporo Clock Tower!
The other stop in Hokkaido was a place called Hakodate. This city was one of the first opened to trade by the Treaty of Kanagawa in 1854, along with Yokohama and Shimoda. This was the first trade treaty between Japan and the United States, with a man named Commodore Matthew C. Perry (no relation to Chandler) sent to negotiate. As a result of this early trade, the architecture of Hakodate is a unique mix of Western-inspired and traditional Japanese designs.
Taking a tour of the sites on offer, Agustin visited the Hakodate City Ward, the historic Red Brick Warehouse, and Mount Hakodate. The latter offers one Japan's most beautiful night views, overlooking the city and harbor.
While in Hakodate, Agustin was able to enjoy Windscribe's protections and perks while using both the cities free Wi-Fi, and a local Starbucks.
Agustin also had two honorable mentions for anyone visiting Sapporo:
- In the summertime, there is a relaxation area with free Wi-Fi, where you can drink beer - for free!
- In the winter, the Sapporo Ekimae-dori underground walkway has lots to offer in terms of restaurants and shopping (as well as easy access to stations)
When Agustin returned to Tokyo, the first order of business was to visit some of the sites that he did not have a chance to in the first few days. This meant checking out Shimokitazawa, an area famous for its "Hippie Chick" ascetic. There are many vintage clothes stores and other stuff that we'd label "hipster," and many tourists love to go there to buy clothes and artsy things.
Agustin himself visited a famous Vintage American Apparel store, where he found out that the manager loves our product and has even visited Toronto in the past!
The Tokyo Game Show is a world-famous event in Japan that - you guessed it - caters to gaming! Agustin took Windscribe to the event to mingle and make friends, and they did just that.
Unfortunately, Tokyo was still incredibly hot (Agustin's exact words were "hell on earth") for the first couple of days, making it difficult to work. On Business Day, it got so bad that people needed medical attention. By Sunday, however, things had cooled down, and the event organizer was, well, more organized!
While there, Agustin made lots of friends and gave out a bunch of 1-year PRO Windscribe codes to different people - including some awesome cosplayers! Check out their sick get-ups in the snaps below.
The final stop on this stage of the journey was the capital city itself, Kyoto. With more UNESCO sites than any other city in the world, Kyoto is a vibrant and wonderful location; it's no wonder it's a point of national pride!
There were lots of things to see and do here, so Agustin took Windscribe to the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, the Golden Pavillion Temple, and the Ninna-Ji Temple. He even participated in some Ninja training at Studio Toei!
Fun Fact: you can test your luck at the Kiyomizu-dera Temple and, according to the experts there, we got the BEST luck possible, and business is going to be booming. You heard it here first, folks: Windscribe is going to take over the world!
