As 2023 draws to a close, it is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the trying times that continue to unfold across the globe. For many, this year has been a relentless continuation of challenges; a cockup-composite of economic strife, socio-political unrest, and environmental adversities. 

The hopeful optimism we had in January seems to have dissipated, as communities grapple with the realities of soaring inflation, the aftershocks of health crises, and the increasing threat of climate change. These hardships, coming on the heels of a tumultuous previous year, have absolutely beaten us down.

It’s human nature to assign fault, to find a pattern in the chaos, and to point fingers at a culprit; but the truth is it is practically impossible to point to one single person as THE Lord of Chaos. Yet, with all the subtlety of a hand grenade, I’m going to attempt to do just that.

We have compiled a list of our favorite O.V.E.R.L.O.R.Ds of the year. The criteria are that they have infringed on human rights, the right to self-determination, privacy & security, or have just been an absolute bell-end. I have scoured the internet, consumed the headlines of each month, and spoken with our amazing Discord & Reddit community for their input - for this award shall be By the People, For the People!

You will find a mixture of dictators, politicians, CEOs, public figures, and everything in between. We've even included our own Chief Monkey Officer, Yegor Sak, so you can't accuse us of bias.

How Does This Work?

Every 24 hours from this post we will run a series of polls. We will keep this updated below for each heat. You can vote every 24 hours. Keep an eye out for your Windscribe In-App updates or keep tabs on our Twitter.

What is it that drives these people to be objectively awful examples of human nature?

Well, we might not be able to get answers from all of them, but our Editor-in-Chief, Ben, will be seeking to ask this most important question of whoever wins this royally fucked rumble. That's right: whoever comes out top is going to be incessantly pestered by Ben until they agree to a sit-down interview with us... or until Ben suffers a mysterious accident, whichever comes first.
