Control Freaks Rejoice: Windscribe Now Obeys Your Every Whim

The latest update to the Windscribe desktop and mobile apps is live, and it brings a little bit of everything. We tidied up the interface, made things faster to access, and added a bunch of customization options for people who like to rename servers to things like “Rat Island” or “CIA Trap #7.”

Let’s break it down.

The App Looks Better Now. You're Welcome.

We gave the app a proper once-over to make things easier to find and less painful to look at.

Here’s what’s new:

• A cleaner home screen with round flags and fewer distractions
• A simplified preferences menu with a new "Look and Feel" section
• Faster access to network settings (Auto-Secure and Preferred Protocol), right from the main screen by clicking on your network name
• You’ll now see a Pro badge if you’re a paid user (flex if you’ve got it)

🎯 Pro tip: You can now change your VPN protocol from the home screen. No more digging through five layers of settings to switch from WireGuard to Stealth. It’s all right there, where it should’ve been in the first place.

Make It Look Like Whatever You Want

Okay, so this isn’t completely new, but we’ve jazzed it up a bit. You already had the ability to add your own custom background to the Windscribe app - separately for Connected and Disconnected states - but now you can:

• Choose from one of our built-in preset backgrounds
• Adjust the aspect ratio: Fill, Stretch or Tile

So yes, you can have a cursed image of a raccoon with a cigarette appear every time you connect. Or a calming landscape for when you're disconnected and questioning your life choices.  Any .png, .jpg and .gif (desktop only) will do the trick. Have fun!

Add Sound Effects Because... Why Not

Want to hear a sound when you connect or disconnect from the VPN? Now you can.

Choose from our presets or upload your own sound effect!. You can set different sounds for each action, so maybe go classy on connect and completely unhinged on disconnect. Or vice versa, if that’s your vibe.

Options include:

• Preset notification sounds
• Your own .mp3, .wav and .m4a (mobile only, best for iOS) files
• Separate sounds for each action

This isn’t just for laughs. It’s actually useful if your connection drops and you want to know right away. But also yeah, it’s for laughs.

Rename Every Server to Something Stupid

You can now rename all server locations in the app. Why? No reason. But you can.

1. Go to Preferences → Look and Feel
2. Export the server_nicknames.json file
3. Open it and change the County, City and Nickname fields to whatever you want
4. Save it and import the updated file

That’s it. No restart needed.
