If you receive a popup window with message similar to this from your browser: "The proxy https://us-east-004.staticnetcontent
requires a username and password."
Here is what you can try:
- Turn off Windscribe extension before closing the browser or
- Do not restore opened tabs when browser is opened. If you are using chrome, you can go to "chrome://settings/" from your browser, scroll to the bottom where it says "On startup", then select "open the new tab page".
- If you are using Firefox, please go into Firefox Options. Advanced (from the gray bar on the left), and then Network tab. Click on "Settings..." button. You should see that its set to "Automatic proxy configuration url". Change this to "use system proxy settings" and click OK. If that doesn't solve the issue, change it to "No proxy".
Below is an more detailed explanation of the issue:
So what happens is when the browser starts, it may not have enough time to initialize all the extensions (especially if you have a lot installed) before it sends the first HTTP request. When this happens, and Windscribe extension isn't running yet, you will see the login prompt, since it actually makes a proxy request for the webpage through our server. The extension inputs the credentials for you, so this box is always hidden, but if it didn't get a chance to start, you will see the box. This is done to prevent your IP from leaking when the browser starts up. Its not exactly graceful, but you should just be able to click Cancel.
