Tuesday Newsday Nov 7- Nov 13: ChatGPT gets DDOS'd, Epic vs Google Lawsuit, Boeing data leaked, and more!

I sure hope y'all are hungry this week, 'cause we got a feast on our hands. The internet chefs have decided to bless our mortal souls with a jumble of juicy morsels. Now that your appetite for knowledge is salivating harder than Pavlov's dogs, let's get into it.

💡
ChatGPT is hit with DDOS attacks

Thus far, OpenAI has been rather coy about offering up more information. What we know so far is that ChatGPT services were experiencing periodic outages “due to an abnormal traffic pattern reflective of a DDoS attack.”

💡
The Epic vs Google Lawsuit finally reaches courts

This entire case has been ongoing since 2020 and alleges that Google engages in predatory practices, effectively having an unlawful monopoly by making it next to impossible for non-Google-play payment options. Kind of ironic coming from the company that was forced to pay over half a BILLION dollars last year due to their predatory practices towards young folk. But hey, takes one to know one I guess.

Almost as if both of these companies aren't acting in good faith

LockBit publishes stolen Boeing data

Boeing decided against paying a ransom and, in response, 43 GB of sensitive data was published. LockBit is a well-known and resilient Ransom-as-a-Service (RAAS) that has been going strong for around 4 years now. The US government estimates the gang was able to extort $91 Million in 2020.

💡
Multiple Australian Ports hit by major cyber-attack

The Australian National Cyber Security Coordinator called the attack a "nationally significant cyber incident." The attack targeted DP World, a major logistics provider that is responsible for over 40% of Australia's containers, and caused major backlogs in 4 separate ports. The backlogs are expected to last for several days.

TL;DR

  • ChatGPT experiences outages; developers and wannabe playwrights everywhere go into panic
  • Epic Games might actually force Google to do something good for the consumer
  • Boeing takes a big L because they didn't want to pay a ransom
  • Anyone waiting on a shipment in Australia should expect a delay

The unfortunate reality of our interconnected digital era is that every interaction you have online can be tracked or measured in some way. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to have a proactive and comprehensive privacy strategyPart of that strategy includes using a VPN like Windscribe, which can help keep your data safe and help maintain anonymity online.
